I've had several delicious meals at the Blue Mermaid and would say its worth the trip, but I feel I could say that about most eateries up there. I think that Portsmouth is a diner's delight. (Notable exception - Pier II - avoid at all costs.)

Having sat in the Portsmouth Brewery for 35 minutes waiting for our drinks and salads, we opted to hit the road to some unexplored territory, and landed at the Blue Mermaid. What an excellent choice! The margaritas were terrific! The waitstaff very attentive, and the food had a great taste and unexpected flair to it...unique blends of caribbean fruits and spices, with tender fish and meats. Check this place out for a light lunch! You won't be disappointed. Prices were between $6-12 for lunch entrees, and the drinks were priced at around $5. Now that's what I'm talking about!
